  1. Your Cheating Heart - Part 3

The arrival of Jeff Mallow on Guitars in September 2006 saw a subtle shift in the direction of the music; Jeff’s influences covered more of the guitar driven rock bands of the 90’s like Soundgarden and Tool, bringing a different flavor to the mix. Combine that with his easy style and previous experience of playing with Mario, he quickly fitted into the band.

This clip is from the first time Kelli and band went to Swinghouse studios in March of 2007, its the final part of the track: the introduction’s out of the way, we’re no longer in the love ballad that Hank originally had in mind, the groove change has happened and Kelli is setting up the final build into the rocked out anthem that the track has now become…

It’s one of my favorite grooves, particularly when Jeff and Mario play the same figure underneath Kelli when she’s singing: “You’re gonna walk the floor now, now, now, now, now!”

I think of all Kelli’s current material - Your Cheating Heart is a great introduction to who she is as an artist and what kind of music she likes to play. It is also an incredible testament to the song that Hank Williams wrote over 50 years ago - it still sounds fresh and relevant.

At this point, I would thoroughly recommend that you go have a listen to the new version again - it’s a great song - if you get a chance - you should come and see it live!
