Your Cheating Heart - Part 2

In early 2006 Kelli assembled players for her new band, The ShadowMen consisting of drums, bass, guitar and keyboards. Working three days a week from April to the end of year, they went through the processes that every new band has to go through.

Drums and Keyboards were replaced early on in the project and the first real iteration of the ShadowMen consisted of Gary Myrick on Guitars, Mario Pagliarulo on Bass, Thom Hartwick on Drums and Andrew McCluskey on Keyboards.

There is a huge difference between working up a track for a studio cut and actually performing live. The studio gives you access to fantastic session players, double tracking, overdubs and all the dizzy array of controls that are available to you -playing live means there is no second chance - all of it’s gotta be right, at the same time and its gotta sound amazing.

That doesn’t just happen in a day!

Here is a clip from one of those early sessions, recorded in the rehearsal room on July 24th 2006, nothing fancy just two microphones in the room:

There is a much rawer and heavier sound to this version of Your Cheating Heart and you can certainly hear the influence of Gary Myrick’s Guitar. A musician with more than three decades experience, Gary brought a great feel to the room and that big fat guitar tone is now an unmistakable signature of Kelli’s sound.
