As we move into the next phase of the project, it is truly incredible when you stop and take a look at the thousands of new ways to promote Kelli’s music. One that we were made aware of this morning was Blabbr.com. Times sure have changed - Blabbr is hot on the heels of sites like Twitter, Jaiku and Pownce to name but a few. To expand a little:
Onthebigblackbus.com is the blog of the Kelli project, it is written once a day during the week and gives an update and insight as to what is going on in our world. This approach is probably manageable to previous generations who are used to getting information from a daily newspaper or the television. However - these new programs or “Micro-Blogs” as they are called take that approach and apply steroids - no asterisk required!
In this age of constant connection, information becomes more stream of consciousness rather than considered and distilled. Information is delivered in sound bites rather than paragraphs - if the sound bite is interesting then the reader can follow up on the user profile and find out more about the poster - or not.
For us, it is just one more way of letting people know we exist. If what we have to say is relevant, witty or smart - then people might take a look. Woe betide anybody who tries to manipulate the system for their own ends - Spam is no longer restricted to your in box but also refers to inappropriate posting, direct and overt self promotion within communities. The digital community wants to know who you are first before it hears about your product.
Fortunately for us - that’s just how we like it.
Don’t forget to visit garageband.com on Sunday to see The Preacher’s Daughter be Track of the Day in Country - we’re very proud of that - and it had nothing to do with us or our promotion - and everything to do with the fact that other musicians and bands dig the track! Amen to that.
