More Zune stuff…..

Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft’s entertainment division, said the firm is prepared to spend “hundreds of millions of dollars” on this in the coming years. Bach explained: “It is something that is going to take time. This is not a six-month initiative. This is something that is going to be a three, four, or five-year investment.”

Recent discussion in the Blogsphere have rumors of Microsoft launching a 30 gig Zune (Apples’ equivalent iPod retails at $249) at anywhere from $199 down to even $99!!!!! Even at $249, Microsoft have stated that they will lose close to $150 on each player. It would make huge sense for Microsoft to come in with a ridiculously cheap price point, lose a couple of hundred million in the first two years and then recoup entirely on the back end through subscriptions, downloads, integration with the entire Microsoft product suite, etc….

But what does all this mean to the typical bus rider? It means if you’re not one of the 60 million+ people who already have an iPod and are immersed in the digital music world - you’re about to be given a very cost effective alternative way to be able to access Kelli’s music. Here’s to an amazing holiday season!
