“Don’t screw it up” is an expression that comes to mind - a lot.

Here’s a pretty dodgy recording of what Hey was starting to sound like with Jeff in the room last Friday. With the Telecaster now ringing out the guitar part, the piano part can be developed - could even be a different tone - we’ll see.

It’s the lyric that kills me - it’s definitely directed at women; the “fat girl” reference makes sure of that - but I think that guys get it. Kelli and I talked about this when we playing with the words - it’s not just the “…does my bum look big in this?” cliche - this is the people we love. When you realize that the one you love is genuinely unhappy in their own body - that’s a very sad day.

We weren’t happy when we wrote this - we felt out of control - impotent - hopeless. The song is simple in the way that pain is simple - in the way that sadness, is really pretty uncomplicated - the things that make us sad may be complex as hell - but sadness itself? - that’s pretty straightforward really - we all know how that feels.

Woke up to another bad day
There’s nothing I can do
But wait, for the chemicals now

-

Wish the child in me would go away
And take the fat girl too
I’ll wait for the chemicals now

Woke up to another bad day
There’s nothing I can do
But wait

…and now for something completely different - guess where we were last weekend? Here’s a hint:
